Name a book that you bought and then let gather dust on your shelves for … seven years. I’ll go first…
I think the contrarian in me prevented me from picking up WILD until now. When I bought it, it was so hyped, and I would read the first few pages and put it back down. This year, though, I decided it was time to read it (probably something to do with the feeling of restlessness and wanderlust I’m experiencing).
Put simply, I really enjoyed it. It’s a story of womanhood, grief, and breakups that happen because they have to, and it’s also a story of figuring out how to be yourself when you don’t like who you are anymore or maybe don’t know who you are or at least don’t recognize yourself. It’s very messy, raw, and honest. I was a little annoyed that it took me so long to read it, but I also think I read this at the right time. As an aside, the Lorelai storyline in the Gilmore Girls reboot made a bit more sense after reading this (the death of Richard, the need for clarity, her tendency to run away). #therorygilmorebookclub I recommend it!
Synopsis: “At twenty-two, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother’s death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life. With no experience or training, driven only by blind will, she would hike more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State — and she would do it alone.”
Have you read this one? 💛
